PurposeWarwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS) — administration and scoring reference.

Administration

Use the registered/authorized 14-item form and its original self-completion instructions.

Scoring method

Sum fourteen responses scored 1–5: total 14–70. This tool accepts only the completed 14-item raw total.

Interpretation & limitations

  • Higher totals reflect greater reported positive wellbeing; interpretation is descriptive and population context matters.
  • Interpret the findings alongside the clinical interview, functioning, history and relevant physical assessment.
  • The seven-item SWEMWBS uses a different metric/conversion. No illness-probability or universal clinical cutoff is inferred.
  • Use the original instrument and manual for item wording, rating anchors, missing-data rules and any normative conversions. This reference does not establish a diagnosis or select treatment.
