PurposeScore interpretation for Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology—Clinician (QIDS-C)

Administration

Complete the appropriate original 16-item form over the past seven days, then enter its nine scored domains.

Scoring method

Use the highest of four sleep ratings, the highest of four appetite/weight ratings and the highest of two psychomotor ratings. Add these to the six single-item domains; range 0–27.

Interpretation & limitations

  • Bands describe depressive symptom severity in the QIDS framework; they do not diagnose a depressive episode.
  • Examine death/suicide-related responses directly, at every total.
  • Do not sum all 16 raw ratings. Do not combine clinician and self-report forms.
