PurposeEating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26) — administration and scoring reference.

Administration

Use the authorized original form. Review behavioral-frequency information and age-appropriate weight/medical concerns alongside the keyed item score.

Scoring method

Apply the original 0–3 key, including the opposite direction for item 26, then sum all 26 items: 0–78. Behavioral items and weight context remain separate.

Interpretation & limitations

  • A symptom score of 20 or more meets the developer’s referral criterion, but behavioral or weight concerns can warrant assessment below 20.
  • Interpret the findings alongside the clinical interview, functioning, history and relevant physical assessment.
  • A total-only result cannot evaluate all referral criteria or medical instability. No missing-data estimate is performed here.
  • Use the original instrument and manual for item wording, rating anchors, missing-data rules and any normative conversions. This reference does not establish a diagnosis or select treatment.
